Every summer, when Chinese Glossy Privet is in full blossom, the farewell songs is heard in resounding voice and deep love. On the morning of June 24th, 2020, SDUT held a graduation ceremony to congratulate graduates of the year 2020 on triumph in their studies and offer best wishes for their new life journey. LYU Chuanyi, Chairman of the Committee for the Conferment of Academic Degrees and Secretary of the School Party Committee, maintained that the flower of youth should bloom in hard work and affectionately delivered messages to the graduates, “Children, may you be happy and safe. Students, may you ride your dream and live up to your glorious time. Alumni, may you have a bright and promising future.” Warm applause broke out at the scene.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the graduation ceremony took place at a main venue, while a branch venue watched the live streaming. The ceremony at the main venue was attended by university leaders, including LYU Chuanyi, HU Xingyu, LIU Guohua, ZHANG Xiangyun, WANG Libin, WEI Xiuting, YI Weiming, and ZHANG Jinsheng. It was also attended by heads of the academic schools, and graduates representatives. Members of leadership of the academic schools, director of Student Affairs Office, counselors in charge of graduate work and other graduates participated in the ceremony at the branch venue. The ceremony was presided over by ZHANG Xiangyun, vice president and member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee.
Before the ceremony, musical performances were held, and the graduation season theme lighting show and the videos of teachers words were displayed.Good wishes were expressed to the graduates through songs like Dream Stars and Farewell.
In the majestic national anthem, the ceremony unfolded.
WEI Xiuting, vice president, vice chairman of the Committee for the Conferment of Academic Degrees and member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee, delivered the Decision on Granting Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degrees for Graduates of Year 2020. LIU Guohua, vice president and member of the Standing Committee of the School Party Committee, delivered the Notice on Honoring Outstanding Graduates in 2020.
University leaders awarded diplomas and degree certificates to graduate representatives, and honorary certificates to outstanding graduate representatives.
Liu Bowen, a postgraduate graduate, delivered a speech on behalf of all graduates. He said, “We will continue to strive for the happiness of more people and stand up to a new starting point. We are the moving symbols of SDUT, however far we go and however high we reach.”
Prof. LIU Xiaohong from School of Computer Science and Technology, delivered a speech on behalf of teachers. She encouraged graduates to establish ideals and beliefs and bear responsibility bravely, dare to face up to difficulties and challenges, and cultivate habits in book- reading and sports.
LYU Chuanyi made a speech full of deep feelings and enthusiasm. On behalf of all teachers, students and staff, he extended warm congratulations to the graduates, who successfully completed their studies.
LYU Chuanyi said affectionately that from now on, no matter where you go, you will have the genes of SDUT in your blood. Wherever you are, your alma mater is there; whatever you are, you are your alma mater; how high you are, your alma mater is as high. Every part of your figure will be mapped in Jixia Lake, and your every halo will flash in the sky of your alma mater.
LYU Chuanyi encouraged graduates to face the challenges of adversity and setbacks courageously and hold hope and be more courageous. In the face of ups and downs, he hoped that graduates would straighten up their mind, treat gains and losses rationally, and learn to broaden their horizon and raise their realm. In the face of various temptations, he hoped that graduates would keep the bottom line, remember that there are things which can never be done, grasp the “steering wheel” of life, and learn to be a noble person.
LYU Chuanyi said, “we believe that 2020 graduates will be able to stand up to the tide of the times, shoulder your mission, live up to the prosperous times, and make unremitting efforts to fight bravely in the great process of realizing the Chinese Dream, so that the flower of youth will bloom more brightly.”
In the university song You and Me，the 2020 graduation ceremony came to an end. University leaders and academic school leaders boarded the rostrum and waved frequently to see the graduates leave.
