From November 23rd to 24th, a team of 4 experts from engineering education accreditation expert group of the Ministry of Education, headed by Professor YU Bin of the Beijing General Research Institute of Mining & Metallurgy, inspected the accreditation of mining engineering in SDUT.
On the morning of the 23rd, the inspection meeting was held in the conference room on the second floor of the North Building of Xingyuan Hotel. Members of the expert group and school leaders HU Xingyu, LIU Guohua and WEI Xiuting attended the meeting. The meeting was divided into two phases. The first phase was presided over by WEI Xiuting, vice president and member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of SDUT, and the second phase was presided over by YU Bin.
HU Xingyu, president of SDUT and deputy secretary of the Party Committee, on behalf of more than 40,000 teachers and students of SDUT, expressed welcome and thanks to the expert group. He said that engineering education accreditation was an important measure to strengthen the discipline construction and improve the quality of personnel training. All experts would further check the pulse for the mining engineering discipline, analyze the problems, and put forward suggestions, so as to better promote the discipline construction and development. SDUT would actively cooperate with SDUT, earnestly learn valuable opinions, further refine the characteristics, improve the quality of personnel training, and make new and greater contributions to the economic and social development and the progress of science and technology in the industry.
YU Bin briefly explained the purpose, requirements and schedule of the inspection. He said that discipline self-proof was an important part of engineering education accreditation. On the basis of reviewing self-assessment materials, the expert group would further verify the relevant contents, data and information through field visits, in-depth interviews, and access to information, and check the improvement of work after the self-assessment, so as to put forward suggestions and opinions on the development of the accreditation discipline.
The person in charge of mining engineering made supplementary explanation on the self-assessment report from seven aspects: student index, training objectives, graduation requirements, continuous improvement, curriculum system, teaching staff and supporting materials.
For the problems to be verified, the members of the expert group had an interactive exchange with the heads of relevant departments of SDUT.
During the inspection, according to the relevant requirements of accreditation, the expert group conducted a comprehensive examination on the construction of mining engineering discipline in SDUT by investigating teaching facilities, conducting in-depth interviews and consulting archives.
On the afternoon of the 24th, the feedback meeting of the expert group was held in the conference room on the second floor of the North Building of Xingyuan Hotel. Members of the expert group and school leaders LYU Chuanyi, WEI Xiuting and YI Weiming attended the meeting. The feedback meeting was hosted by YU Bin.
On behalf of the expert group, YU Bin gave feedback on the inspection opinions. He said that after full discussion by the expert group, they believed that since SDUT started the accreditation of engineering education in 2016, SDUT understood and implemented the concept of engineering accreditation in an orderly manner, including the top-level design, curriculum design and teaching syllabus for supporting the graduation requirements. Mining engineering blasting laboratory featured outstanding, closely combined with the development of the industry and advanced experimental means, was worthy of promotion, and the entrepreneurship and innovation center and national defense education base of SDUT also featured distinct. The overall spiritual outlook of the teaching staff of mining engineering was good, and they loved and were dedicated to their jobs. Young teachers were active and enthusiastic.
Members of the expert group fed back the main problems found one by one from the aspects of practice, teaching staff, condition guarantee and sustainable development, and put forward constructive suggestions.
LYU Chuanyi, secretary of the Party Committee, made a statement on behalf of SDUT. He said that we fully accepted the guidance and improvement suggestions put forward by the expert group. The inspection of engineering education accreditation was an all-round, high-level and three-dimensional comprehensive physical examination for mining engineering discipline, which would effectively promote the discipline construction and the improvement of education and teaching level of SDUT.
In order to implement the opinions and suggestions put forward by the expert group, LYU Chuanyi put forward the following requirements: first, we should establish a mechanism to strictly implement the rectification; second, we should take this accreditation as an opportunity to comprehensively deepen the reform of talent training quality; third, we should strengthen the integration of production and education, and constantly improve the mechanism of school-enterprise collaborative education.
Leaders of relevant functional departments of the SDUT, deans of the relevant of engineering disciplines and public basic courses, team members of the School of Resources & Environment Engineering, head and teacher representatives of mining engineering discipline, and representatives of teachers of basic courses attended the two meetings.
